]]>It can be quite discouraging.
Such thoughts have gone through my head:
“What?! How did they get so good at reading?! Are they really understanding it all or are they faking it?! Nobody can read at that level! IMPOSUBURU!”
But it can be done. I’ve progressed tremendously over 2014, though I’ve done mostly vocab and grammar reviews with Anki. It’s helped a great deal, though.
Going through all of that studying was fun, but tiring. However, now I can read a lot more without running to the dictionary as often. It’s a really rewarding feeling.
And even better, going back to books that I’ve read previously, I can read faster with a better understanding the story.
Thanks for writing this. I also forgot what it was like to be a beginner, and only being able to respond in one word phrases to my Japanese friends. Now I can talk for hours while only asking about words here and there.
How are you doing these days?
]]>(And totally true about beginners working harder – there is not enough money in the world to pay me to go back to struggling through the beginning stages of reading in Chinese. Not. Enough.)
